Ramadan Iftar at the Mayor of New York’s home with a large number of leaders of the Muslim community in New York City

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the Muslim community of New York City held an Iftar at Gracie Mansion on Tuesday, attended by many Muslim communities, civil society organizations, and Arab media representatives.

In his speech, Adams welcomed the city’s Muslim communities, expressing his pride in sharing it with the leaders of the Muslim community in New York City, wishing that this Ramadan will be a month of goodness for the city’s Muslim communities.

Detective Mohammed Amen, Advisor to the Mayor of New York on Islamic Affairs, delivered remarks during the iftar, saying:

“My Name is Mohamed Amen and honored to be the Muslim Senior Advisor to Mayor Eric Adams, our mission is to uplift and empower our diverse Muslim communities, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs prioritized. With an incredible team of four dedicated to serving these communities, we work tirelessly to foster inclusion, advocate for meaningful change, and strengthen the bonds that make our city thrive.

As we gather this evening to break our fast during this blessed month of Ramadan, we reflect on the values of unity, compassion, and service to others principles that resonate deeply within our faith and our city. It is in this spirit that we acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of our  Mayor, whose leadership has significantly impacted both the Muslim community and all New Yorkers.

This administration demonstrated a profound commitment to religious inclusivity. A landmark initiative under this administration was the clarification allowing mosques to broadcast the Adhan, the Muslim call to prayer, every Friday and throughout Ramadan. This move not only honors our traditions but also enriches the cultural tapestry of New York City.

First time ever women iftar at Gracie Mansion this coming Thursday.

And many more accomplishment towards our Muslim community, and this is just a start.

We are committed to delivering vital services and workshops to our Muslim communities through open and ongoing communication with our leaders.

By actively listening to their most pressing needs, we collaborate with city agencies to ensure these essential services are accessible and impactful.

The lessons learned during the month, such as patience, gratitude, and self-control, are meant to be carried throughout the year.

The struggle of fasting reinforces the idea that true fulfillment does not come from satisfying the body, but from nurturing the soul.

It is in this spirit that we acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of our Mayor, Eric Adams, whose leadership has significantly impacted both the Muslim community and all New Yorkers.

In this sacred month of reflection and gratitude, we honor the invaluable contributions of our Muslim leaders within this administration, our dedicated community leaders, and every city agency. A special acknowledgment goes to the brave women and men in uniform who selflessly put their lives on the line each day to serve and protect us all. Their unwavering commitment helps build a city where diversity is embraced, safety is upheld, and opportunities flourish for everyone.

These efforts beautifully reflect the core values of Ramadan—empathy, community, and service. As we come together to break our fast tonight, let us carry these shared principles forward, striving collectively for a more inclusive, compassionate, and prosperous New York City.

Thank you, and Ramadan Mubarak”.
