The Coptic Law Enforcement Officers Society (Coptic LEOS) organized its annual Christmas
celebration on Staten Island on the twenty-first of January, 2023, in the presence of the Society’s President Lieutenant Mariana Zakhary, and Board Members, Vice President Lieutenant Joseph Atalla, Vice President Lieutenant Nasser Gorgy, Secretary Police Officer Mina Ghandour, Lieutenant Joseph Abdelmessih, Treasurer retired OfficerAtef Moussa and Lt. George Ibrahim.
During the event, President Zakhary and members of the board of directors of the association honored Police Officer Hanna, who succeeded in stopping a terrorist attack last New Year’s Eve, when an extremist Islamist stabbed two police officers in Times Square, only to be struck by a bullet to his shoulder by Police Officer Hanna. The terrorist was on the FBI’s Watch List.
The event was attended by NYPD Deputy Chief Terrence Hurson, the Executive
Officer of the Patrol Borough Staten Island , Police Department Chaplain, Assistant Chief
Monsignor Robert Romano, and former Chief of Transit, Joseph Fox, in addition to Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, Council Member, Ari Kagan, and from the Egyptian Consulate, Consul Mohamed Al-Halawani, and Consul Sharif Al-Fakharani.
The event was also attended by many prominent members of the Egyptian community, including the Northeast Regional Manager of Coptic orphans, Shereen Ibrahim, who explained the mission of the organization, and its commitment to helping care for fatherless and other vulnerable children in Egypt, that through education they can reach their God-given potential.
While , Council Member Kagan hailed PO Hanna’s action and, Congresswoman Malliotakis thanked the officers present, and indicated her pride in supporting the New York Police Department , and her success in obtaining federal funding for the police department for protective equipment, vehicles and the K9 unit, all of which contribute to providing the elements of security and safety to the City of New York.
The event was also attended by many members of the Egyptian community, including the regional director of Coptic orphans, Shereen Ibrahim, who explained the tasks of the non-profit organization, and how to help in the care of orphaned children in Egypt, including helping to cover study and living expenses.
While Rep. Malliotakis thanked the officers present and indicated her pride in supporting the New York Police Unit, which succeeded in obtaining support from federal funding for the police unit in terms of protective equipment, vehicles and the K9 unit, all of which contribute to providing the elements of security and safety in the city.
